What is the future of Higher Education? Some thoughts on the recent Digital Horizons seminar

I recently had the privilege of presenting some thoughts at the Digital Horizons Seminar on Transforming Higher Education.

The purpose of the seminar was to "explore innovative strategies, best practices, and challenges in digital transformation, focusing on teaching and learning, research, student support, system improvement, and institutional overarching strategic approaches. This collaborative event brings together esteemed stakeholders in the Western Cape: University of the Western Cape (UWC), University of Cape Town (UCT), University of Stellenbosch (SU), Cape University of Technology CPUT, Cape Higher Education Consortium (CHEC), and our governmental partners."

The panel consisted of an interesting, multi-disciplinary mix of academics and practitioners that have been grappling with the complexities surrounding digital transformation at institutional and operational levels.

Generative AI (of course) featured quite prominently as a complex challenge.

My session starts at about 1:07 and focused on the impact of large scale platformisation and the wicked design problems it poses to the sector.
